Why it’s actually possible to build a business while working that can earn you a side income, eventually replace your salary – and give you that freedom lifestyle you have been seeking

This is important. I want to put this out there to create awareness of the possibilities beyond the bubble. That bubble I speak of is the corporate world, and having worked in the corporate finance sector in London for over 15 years – I feel that I have a duty to help people realize that there are other legitimate ways of earning. The freedom lifestyle you’ve heard of – and dream of, is well within your reach!

When I was an employee of a big corporate bank in my 20s – I was proud of my position despite the long work days, doing shit work and fighting to climb that promotion wall. Not forgetting those horrible commutes and not really believing in the value of the work I was producing. I mean how does society really benefit from a particular risk report or proposal presentation?

Why was I proud? Well, because my job had become my identity. That was who I was. And there was a false sense of pride that I had reached societal and parental expectations to graduate from my class and become a banker.

Is your job really serving you?

But over time, you realize that the job isn’t serving you one bit. Mentally, physically or for peace of mind. Because despite a comfortable salary – I really did not have time to enjoy the money or spend time with friends or family because there was always the next project to plan, work on, and consolidate. On top of that I didn’t like the work I was doing.

And this is a problem many corporate employees face. The drudgery and monotony of it all just weighs heavily – yet so many people are unconscious to it. But eventually you get to a point where you need a change. Because otherwise, if you’re anything like me – you looked at your seniors and bosses and realize you don’t want to end up like them. Weathered, grumpy, ‘this-is-life’ type attitude, facing divorce, endless settlements and remaining in a job to live, as opposed to just LIVING. Seeing this possible future was frightening.

Ninety-nine percent of people in the world are convinced they are incapable of achieving great things, so they aim for the mediocre.

So what are the options to creating a freedom lifestyle?

This is when I started to think about options. Maybe it was another job? Sure I could get a higher salary, but then it’s the same shit over again. Maybe property was the answer, or possibly franchising. Those 2 options seemed to rely on heavy capital investment. Maybe it was trading? But I couldn’t stare at charts all day.

What I needed was a business that once set up – can provide continuous or passive income with little involvement from me. Something that gave financial and time freedom. And I found from my research – that an online business was the solution to achieving that elusive freedom lifestyle.

You see, more and more people are looking for a realistic way to start a business while still working a day job, and the number one thing people like this tend to want to know – is if it’s realistic to replace their income before leaving their job to focus on the business full time.

I can tell you that it absolutely is realistic and more so than ever in today’s digital world. When I was starting out with my first online venture, I used to work evenings around my 70-hours-a-week job as a corporate finance professional.

The 2 models that best provide this time and financial freedom are E-commerce and Affiliate Marketing. And these are 2 models that can work around your job.

Affiliate Marketing

I would always recommend affiliate marketing for people starting their first business online. Affiliate marketing is where you sell other businesses products and get a commission – without having to do any fulfilment or delivery. If you’re an affiliate, the amount of products you can sell is unlimited. And the beauty of it is that you can sell those products many times over, 24/7, 365 days a year – using automated processes. So even when you’re at work or sleeping, you are busy growing your income as you grow your sales.

The possibilities online are limitless!

Another option is to sell physical products with an E-commerce business. With physical products, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. You can order existing products in bulk at a fraction of the cost and then set up a sales system.

Opportunities like Amazon FBA will do the heavy lifting for you. They will process the payments from customers and deal with the packaging, distributing, and customer service. In the meantime, you’ll get busy selling the products and setting up marketing and ad campaigns to make those sales happen – which you can do around your job in just one or two hours a day.

How long does it take?

Whatever you’re selling, the first 10 sales are going to be the hardest. But once you’ve made your first double figures in sales, you’ll gain the confidence that you can rinse and repeat – and grow. You’ll learn exactly how many sales you need to be making each week and each month to have a steady business that’s going to eventually replace your income.

Some people take 2 days to make their first 10 sales. Others take up to 12 months. It comes down to whether you picked the right product for the market at the current time – and of course your commitment to learning the digital skills you need to succeed.
